about the village co.

Our story

The Village Co. started because nobody should have to figure this out alone.

I'm Sara Jo — an adoptive parent in Iowa who spent years figuring things out the hard way. Court dates nobody explained. Benefits I didn't know I was entitled to. Hard days with no one to call. A system that assumed I knew how it worked when nobody had ever told me.

I built this site for the person I was on day one. For the grandparent who just took in their grandchildren and doesn't know where to start. For the foster parent sitting in a parking lot after a hard visit trying to hold it together. For the adoptive parent who thought finalization would feel like an ending and is realizing it's actually a beginning.

This is not a government resource. It is not sponsored by an agency. It is just one person who has been there, putting everything she learned in one place so you don't have to figure it out alone.

You needed this yesterday, but better late than never.

Our Mission

The Village Co. exists to build the village you were never given. We connect families with caring adults across generations, and equip isolated parents with the resources and guidance to find their footing, because no one should have to do this alone.

What’s Coming

The Village Co. is just getting started. The survival guide and resources on this website are the foundation — but the bigger vision is a community where no family is left to figure it out alone.

So that’s what we’re building. Coming soon, we’ll have a program that matches families with caring adults who want to show up. Not as professionals. Not as case managers. Just as people who have time, experience, and a desire to be part of someone's village.

Because the truth is, it's not just foster and adoptive families who need a village. It's the single parent working two jobs. The family new to town with no support system. The mom who is doing everything right and still feels completely alone. Every family deserves a village, and not everyone gets one.

If that sounds like something you'd want to be part of — whether you're a family looking for support or an adult looking to give it — get on the list. We'll be in touch when it's ready.
